For the first time this season Worcestershire Women’s Rapids welcome the Metro Bank One Day Cup to Flagge Meadow, as the side searching for their first win in the competition entertain Leicestershire Foxes Women.
Having gone down to Sussex Sharks Women in the first match of the tournament, Ed Wilson’s young side are looking to open their account in the One Day Cup and get their campaign up and running.
The Latest
With the Rapids’ youngsters taking centre stage in last weekend’s crushing win over Northumberland in the Vitality T20 County Cup, Clare Boycott will be hoping her crop of emerging stars can lead from the front once again as the side prepare for a change in format again this Sunday.
It was Daisy Egerton who stole the show with the ball, claiming three wickets on debut as she spearheaded a Rapids bowling attack that bundled their opponents out for just 38.
Sanya Khurana will be hoping to continue her excellent start to life for her new employers on the back of a composed half-century last time out, with the Dutch international set to make her List A bow for the Club.
Elsewhere, fellow top-order batter Gwen Davies is enjoying a fine start to 2026, also off the back of a superb 56-ball-52 in the 50-over curtain raiser a fortnight ago.
Inside The Camp
Sanya Khurana says she is eager to continue her excellent start to life in Worcestershire colours this weekend, with the Dutch international all-rounder set to make her List A bow for the Rapids as they welcome Leicestershire Foxes Women to Flagge Meadow.
Playing a starring role in last Sunday’s impressive win over Northumberland, Khurana and her side return to a more familiar setting this week, looking to notch their first win of the season in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
After a stint away with her national side at the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers, the middle-order batter has taken to life in Worcestershire like a duck to water.
Praising the culture within the group, Khurana says that it is no coincidence that settling into her new environment so quickly has enabled her to hit the ground running.
“I’ve settled in really well, to be honest. The girls and coaches have been very welcoming from day one, which made it easy to feel part of the group straight away. It’s a great environment to be in where everyone’s focused but also enjoys themselves, which helps you relax and play your best cricket.
“I’ve been working hard in training to understand how the team operates and where I can contribute, and I’m really enjoying being part of it so far.
“It was nice to get some runs out in the middle wearing a Rapids shirt last week, being able to see how the girls go about a game day batting-wise was so interesting, how different players have different methods that make them tick out in the middle.
“Getting that partnership with Boycs felt so easy, she’s just got such a level head, so I have much to thank her for!”
An opening day defeat away to Sussex Sharks Women a fortnight ago was a wake-up call for Ed Wilson’s side, with the girls hitting back admirably to brush aside Northumberland by 121 runs in the Vitality T20 County Cup last time out.
Keen to give her star ample time to show her quality, Wilson utilised Khurana at the top of the order in the shortened format fixture, an opportunity the 21-year-old took with both hands.
Eager to find her best spot in the 50-over format, Khurana is eying a slot in the middle-order as she hopes to extend her impressive recent run and help her team get up and running in 2026.
“I am still trying to figure out my best role in the 50-over team, but I will be pleased with any role, and I will do what’s best for the team.
“I generally bat in the middle order in the 50 over comp, I think that is ideal for me given that I play more 20 over stuff than 50 over cricket, but to be able to get out there with a few of the girls who have just been out in Australia is really exciting as well!
“Playing all formats of cricket has always been the dream, so getting the opportunity to do so with Worcestershire is so exciting.
“I am excited to be in and around the girls again this weekend. The energy is high for this Sunday, and I’m really up for it.”
The Opposition
Leicestershire Foxes Women
Despite having lost the first game of the competition away at Glamorgan Women by 53 runs, Sunday’s visitors hit back with a seven-wicket win over Shropshire in the Vitality T20 County Cup a week ago.
The Foxes will be looking to their pair of Lucy’s – Western and Weston – to extend their impressive early season form
Skipper Western scored a fluent 43 not out to lead her side’s comfortable chase of 81 to overcome Shropshire last Sunday, after lead bowler Lucy Weston had recorded exceptional figures of 5-19 to demonstrate her capabilities with the ball.
If the Rapids are to secure a first win of the season in the competition, they will have to be on red alert to keep the Foxes key threats at bay.
