Worcestershire Women’s Rapids star Sanya Khurana said she is “full of excitement” after making an impressive start to life for her new side.
Joining the squad over the summer from Minor County, Wiltshire, the Dutch international took to life in the Vitality T20 County Cup like a duck to water, registering a superb half-century in the opening round thrashing of Northumberland.
With her side stumbling at 56-4, the opener held firm and joined forces with skipper Clare Boycott, as the pair added 51 runs for the fifth wicket and helped the Rapids post an imposing 159-6.
Running out as 121-run victors in the end, Khurana was delighted to get to work with Boycott, in what transpired to be a crucial partnership.
“It’s good to kick off with a winning start, especially in a knockout tournament. It was really nice to be out there with Boycs, someone who is so experienced, and to put together that partnership we did feel key after losing a few wickets.
“Boycs (Clare Boycott) has such a level head and makes it really easy to be out there with her. We just said we would play each ball on its merit and take that kind of ‘see ball, hit ball’ kind of approach, and it seemed to work really well for us.
“We were aware of the score and the situation but just tried to keep a level head when things had gone a bit haywire.”
After posting a seemingly above-par score, the Rapids bowling unit flexed its muscles, running through their Tier 3 rivals with minimal fuss on the way to dismissing them for just 38.
Khurana was full of praise for a relatively young and inexperienced bowling attack, with debutant Daisy Egerton (3-21) grabbing the headlines with the ball.
Having settled into the squad and made her abilities known to her teammates and Rapids supporters, Khurana is keen to take the positivity in the group onto the next round.
“Daisy was a standout on her debut, but everyone did a great job of keeping the wickets flowing and restricting them as best we could.
“It was just a great feeling to be out there in the Rapids shirt for the first time!
“It is a great group, and the girls have made it a really welcoming place to be, so hopefully it continues as we go on and we keep that excitement going into the next round.”
