Isaac stars as Worcestershire contingent begin 2026 Birmingham Premier League campaign

Published 27/04/2026

The Birmingham Premier League opened its account for 2026 over the weekend, with a whole host of Worcestershire players getting into the groove in the first round of fixtures.

Isaac Mohammed stole the show in Smethwick’s thrashing of Shrewsbury on Saturday, with the England U19 star lacing a brutal 132 at the top of the order for his side, sending the ball to all parts in a destructive 100-ball stay at the crease, which included 12 fours and nine sixes.

The left-hander set his side on their way to an imposing 399-7, before bowling Shrewsbury out for 177 in a crushing 222-run victory.

Himley enjoyed the company of the returning Adam Finch and youngster Lucian Brockman in their opening assignment of 2026, with the two Pears pacemen helping put the skids under Knowle and Dorridge.

After chipping in with 16 in their first innings total of 339-7, Finch (1-35) supported the impressive Brockman, whose excellent figures of 3-34 from a lively eight-over spell saw the hosts run out 136 run victors.

Pathway product Joe Porter featured in Halesowen’s 105-run defeat to Ombersley, scoring six in the Halesowen reply that could only muster 219.

The final fixture of the weekend that involved players on the Worcestershire books saw Barnt Green overcome Barnards Green by 69 runs in an enterprising contest.

Batting first, it was Henry Cullen who set the tone at the top of the order with a 49-ball-45, scoring four fours and three sixes in a typically eye-catching cameo as his side made 229-8.

Young seamer Jeet Varaich, tasked with restricting Cullen’s side, picked up a solitary wicket in his 10-over spell that cost 65 runs.
